Diggers Hotline

LOCATING UNDERGROUND FACILITIESDigging_BLM_web

If you are planning digging or excavating anywhere on your property, you are required to call Diggers Hotline at least three working days prior to beginning the work. Diggers Hotline will contact the owners of any underground facilities on your property. The facilities will be marked so you know where they are located. Your private facilities such as septic lines will NOT be located.

WHY CALL DIGGERS HOTLINE?

• It’s The Law
Wisconsin Statute 182.0175 requires all excavators – including homeowners and construction contractors – to call Diggers Hotline at least three working days before starting the work.

• Protect Yourself
If you don’t call before you dig, you are putting yourself and your neighbors in danger. A shovel could easily cut through a buried underground electric line, and a damaged gas pipeline would put your entire neighborhood in jeopardy.

• Dig Now, Pay Later
If you dig without calling Diggers Hotline and you damage underground facilities, not only will you be financially responsible for the damage, but you could also be subject to a fine of up to $2,000.
