OEC Scholarship Program
Thank you to all the students that participated in 2019.
Oconto Electric Cooperative offers twelve $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school students. Students are invited to apply for scholarships beginning January 1 of their senior year in high school until the application deadline.
Oconto Electric Cooperative is also offering one $2,500 scholarship to a graduating senior who is attending Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in the Electrical Power Distribution program.
OEC’s scholarship program is open to any high school senior whose parent or guardian is a member of Oconto Electric. The billing account for the parent/guardian must be a residential account (which means it must be their primary residence.)
Student must be attending an accredited college or technical school.
How To Apply
Beginning January 1 each year, a scholarship application for that year will be available from local high school guidance counselors, from Oconto Electric’s office or you can download the application. Complete the application and return to Oconto Electric along with the following information:
• A copy of your high school transcripts (with current grade point average)
• Your SAT/ACT test scores
• A summary of school, group, club, community and employment activities, awards and accomplishments
• A one-page essay on future school, life and career goals
• One third-party recommendation (letter of reference)
• The deadline for the current year’s scholarship will be listed on the application
A scholarship committee made up of seven cooperative members, none of whom are OEC employees, meets to go over the applications and select the ten recipients. Recipients and non-recipients are notified by mail as soon as the selection is made.
Making the Award
All recipients are asked to attend Oconto Electric Cooperative’s Annual Meeting so they can be presented with a certificate in front of the general membership. An OEC representative will also attend the recipient’s graduation or awards ceremony to present a certificate and recognize the student in front of his or her peers. The recipient or the school must contact OEC to schedule.
How to Receive the Scholarship
Scholarship money is paid directly to the school at the beginning of the second semester of post-secondary education. The student must send a copy of a paid invoice for the second semester tuition to the address listed below.
